Account Bans — Avoid & Appeal
The difference between restrictions and bans, a safe warm-up plan for new numbers, and how to request a review from Meta if your account is restricted or disabled.
Restricted vs banned#
| What happens | How long | |
|---|---|---|
| Restriction | You can't start new conversations, but can reply to customers who message you | Usually a few hours to days |
| Ban / disabled | The number or WhatsApp account can't send messages | Permanent unless Meta overturns it on review |
You'll see notices in WhatsApp Manager, Meta Business Support Home, and by email.
A safe warm-up plan for a new number#
| Phase | What to do |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | Reply to inbound chats; message only warm customers who know you; small volumes |
| Week 2 | Gradually increase daily volume; keep marketing to engaged labels |
| Week 3–4 | Increase steadily while quality stays green; add new segments slowly |
| Ongoing | Consistent sending, opt-out on every marketing template, clean lists regularly |
If you're restricted or banned#
- Stop all broadcasts and sequences immediately.
- Read the reason in Meta Business Support Home → Account overview.
- Click Request review (or Disagree with decision). Explain briefly and honestly:
- what your business does and who your customers are;
- how customers opt in;
- what you've changed to prevent it happening again.
- Wait — reviews often take 24–48 hours, sometimes longer. Don't submit multiple requests.
- If the decision is upheld, don't move the same behaviour to a new number; Meta links accounts and repeated violations lead to wider restrictions.
